Justice Older Than the Law
Thursday, March 4
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Reception, booksigning and panel discussion exploring what it means to be a female attorney in today's legal world.
In honor of Women's History Month, the Museum and the Mecklenburg County Bar, 26th Judicial District, are presenting a book signing with Katie McCabe, author of Justice Older than the Law, which celebrates the life and legacy of Charlotte native Dovey Johnson Roundtree. Ms. Roundtree is an alumnus of Spellman College and the Howard University School of Law, a former army officer and a minister of the A.M.E Zion Church. Ms. Roundtree conquered color barriers, shattered desegregation, and fearlessly forged a unique fusion of her ministerial duties with her legal profession. Although she retired from active legal practice in 1996, Ms. Roundtree's legacy of public advocacy for many voiceless citizens of Charlotte and Washington, D.C. has not gone unnoticed.
In addition to readings from the book, a panel of distinguished female, legal professionals from the region will share personal perspectives on what it means to be a female attorney in today's legal world.
Moderated by former WCNC news anchor Sterlin Benson
Webber, program panelists include:
Tricia Derr – attorney at Lincoln Derr
Valecia McDowell – attorney at Moore & Van Allen
Nancy Norelli – former NC District Judge and
attorney at Norelli Law
Corie Pauling – senior counsel for TIAA-CREF
Geraldine Sumter – attorney at Ferguson, Stein,
Chamber, Gresham and Sumter
