Presented by Levine Museum of the New South and Harvey B. Gantt Center, join us for two programs that honor and celebrate the work of MLK Jr.:

Civil Rights & Equity: Arts, Culture, & History | 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM | Gantt Center

Join us as we explore equity with a focus on lived experiences and leadership, scholarly analysis, and arts investment. These three perspectives serve as anchors as we reflect on the intention and legacy of the Civil Rights Movement, how historical patterns have re-emerged, and the role that the arts play in the ever-evolving movement towards true equity.

Panelists:

Arthur Griffin (Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners)

Charles Thomas (Knight Foundation)

Dr. Jennifer Dixon-McKnight (Winthrop University)

Moderator:

Angelique Gaines (UNC Charlotte’s Urban Institute)

MLK’s Global Impact: Dance Performance | 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM | Gantt Center

Movement can be an expression and embodiment of justice and connection! Celebrate Dr. King’s impact around the world, and places that influenced him and the Civil Rights Movement, with traditional Indian and South African dance performances by Maha’s Dances of India and MufukaWorks Dance Company.
