We are excited to share our monthly recap, including exciting updates, important milestones, and more. Please take a moment to enjoy our highlights.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Southern Accents event, Charlotte Loves Beer on December 12! We had a wonderful conversation led by Daniel Hartis, enjoyed a beer tasting, and had fun with trivia. Cheers to great times and even better company!
Memorable Museum Field Trips
The Museum had a busy Friday the 13th with visits from Berryhill School’s 7th graders and students from Chester High School in Chester, SC to see Charlotte: Moving Forward Looking Back. Later in the day, we welcomed a conference group from the Black Child Development Institute for a curated experience which included a Brooklyn walking tour and learning about and practicing inquiry teaching models back at the Museum.
Collections Corner
On September 20, 2016, Brently Vinson, an African American Charlotte Police officer, shot and killed Keith Lamont Scott, also African American. The shooting sparked both peaceful and violent protests led by Black Lives Matter in Charlotte. Scott’s death and the ensuing protests highlighted the city’s continued struggles with a history of segregation, racial tension, and difficult relations between African Americans and the police department.
Celebrating the Holiday Season!
Our staff gathered for a festive holiday dinner, games and a fun white elephant gift exchange. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together and share joy all while celebrating the spirit of the season. We wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season and a bright new year ahead!
