Charlotte-based ÚltimaNota will perform an intimate, acoustic set celebrating Latin music, culture, and community

CHARLOTTE, NC – Get ready to experience Charlotte’s Latin music scene like never before.

Levine Museum of the New South is thrilled to welcome ÚlitmaNota, a Charlotte-based Latin band, on Sept. 12 as part of its Southern Accent series. The event will take place from 7-9 p.m. at The Long Room, 111 Central Ave., Suite 230. Tickets are $20 and available on Eventbrite.

Led by guitarist Tony Arreaza, ÚltimaNota was founded in 2009 with members hailing from Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of musical influences – from Buena Vista Social Club to Bob Marley – the band blends old with new, English with Spanish and traditional Latin rhythms to tell the stories of their community and experiences in Charlotte.

“Tony is a long-time friend of the museum, and his story is featured in our exhibit Charlotte: Moving Forward, Looking Back. We are pleased to host him after ÚltimaNota released their full-length album, Soñado (Dreaming),” said Richard Cooper, Levine Museum President and CEO. “It was the first Spanish language music album recorded by local artists in Charlotte.”

“Now, they’ll perform live and debut their new single, Soy De Todos Lados (I’m From Everywhere), celebrating the duality of immigrant communities being from here and from everywhere, for the first time in an intimate, acoustic setting.”

The Museum’s Southern Accents series showcases contemporary work by experts, artists and researchers focused on Southern history and culture. Through participatory programs like musical performances, open mic nights and culinary events, audiences gain deeper insights into the communities that have shaped the city and the region.

“We create programs and exhibitions with and for communities, and we look forward to hearing ÚltimaNota share their stories through their art,” said Franky Abbott, Levine Museum Chief Content Strategist. “We hope the audience connects through shared experiences to learn more about the history of others in their community.”

In addition, the evening will feature special guest appearances by local Latinx musicians, including Bakalao Stars, Dunny Méndez, La Brava, and Wanda López. This event is generously sponsored by the City of Charlotte and community-favorite Manolo’s Bakery, which will provide light refreshments at the event. Guests can enjoy free on-site parking, and drinks will be available for purchase.
